Pool Patio Leveling in Toronto
Discover how Groundworks Commercial restored custom patio pavers without damage or removal in less than half a day.

The Challenge
Custom limestone patio pavers had settled into an unintended slope that aimed excess water into pool and could be a trip hazard.
The Solution
Polyurethane injection leveling to restore the patio to grade.
The Impact
Full removal of patio pavers was avoided and the patio was restored in half a day.
The Challenge
Custom limestone patio pavers settling in an unintended slope.
At a property in Toronto, Canada, custom installed limestone patio pavers surrounding a pool had settled. What should have been a smooth, level surface became a problem area for both aesthetics and safety. Even worse, the settlement created an unintended slope directing water toward the pool, raising concerns not only about excess water entering the pool but also about water ponding on the paver surface. Over time, these drainage issues could have led to further structural shifting, erosion beneath the patio, and long-term damage to the outdoor living space. Most concerning was the risk of trip hazards which was unacceptable for an area where people walk barefoot and often with wet footing. The client, Gib-San Pools & Landscape Creations, needed a timely and effective resolution to restore stability and safety around the pool deck. As their work was ongoing, it was critical that the solution minimize disruption, address the underlying soil and settlement issues, and allow Gib-San to continue their landscaping and pool work without delay.

The Solution
Polyurethane injection to level the patio pavers.
Groundworks had a perfect solution that would allow Gib-San to keep working while also mitigating the problems occurring at the pool: polyurethane injection. Holes were drilled carefully by Groundworks employees, which were the entry point for a geotechnical polymer. The polyurethane moved into the soil beneath the patio, following the path of least resistance and filling the voids below. As the polymer expanded, it gently lifted the patio back to grade, where it was monitored by Groundworks technicians.
The Impact
Immediate stabilization without removing the custom pavers.
This approach not only provided immediate stabilization, but also ensured the lightweight material would not add stress to the underlying soils. Unlike full replacement, polyurethane injection required no removal of the custom pavers, minimized disruption to the active project site, and delivered precise, controlled lift to protect the integrity of the stonework. This job was not only completed in half a day, but also was minimally disruptive to the general contractor on site working. After Groundworks completed the patio leveling, Gib-San was able to complete their work with no further delay.
